Proper Substrate Cleaning Procedures?

    Yea my CC is only about 1" deep, so i think I will try to siphon a bunch of the substrate. I'm gunna be doing a 1/3 tank water change to try to drive down my diatom problem.

    Ashevillan- I've heard the same thing about deep sand beds, but since mine is so shallow, I don't think I have any layers with reduced oxygen/ bad gas.

    1 inch is not much...why don't you just put another inch or two of sand on top? no worries...but I have had 2 inch plus CC and have never disturbed it...other than natural sand sifters and movers...snails, starfish...etc...all is well. : ) jmo

    In that case vacuum away and if u wish, add the sand on top once you have vacuumed the cc very well.
