    That's where my confusion was. I thought Live Rock and Corals were the same thing. Thanks for setting me back on track.

    Robby: It is proven that coralline algae grows much better in low light areas of a tank. That being said, with your lights, your rocks will eventually become encrusted with the purple coralline algae that we all try so hard to get. :)

    Without causing a great debate, I'm one of those anti-dsb folks. I prefer to use about one inch of sand in my tanks.

    If you are only planning on using live rock for filtration and decoration then you dont need to upgrade your light. Its only if you want to keep corals that you would need to upgrade your lighting. The bacteria in the rock does not need the light to survive as they are not photosynthetic. Better lighting however, will show off the colors of your fish better.
