I posted a longer thread under protein skimmers, but long story short my skimmer died, 29g display, sump to start up tomorrow 20g how long do I have to run my tank without any skimming before I run into some problems? I may get lucky and my lfs will have one in stock when I pick up my overflow box tomorrow, last piece I need to start up my sump refugium, but I may have to sit a week to order one online. I'm planning on the reef octopus 4 for $190.

Anything I can do in the meantime to prevent and fish loss would be invaluable advice. I added a pair of semi Picasso clowns three weeks ago that we're pricey and don't want them to go south on me with no skimmer running.

    Help me 3reef!

My skimmer didn't die but my display is the same size.
I've been only looking for a little bit but I've heard some really going things about the bubble magus clones on ebay.
Do some checking into the sca-301... It's rated for a 65 gal. 1/2 the $ of the ROctopus
It's big brother, the sca-303, for a 150 gal has many, many awesome reviews all over the net.
From what I've read, they are the only clone (non brand name) skimmers on ebay that work excellent.

I have a 20 gallon that's been up for a year now. I have SPS and no detectable nutrients without a skimmer. I think you'll be fine.

Yah. I got a bit panicky, but my semi Picasso pair were pricey and I'm trying to take good care of them. The other thread I started also had great advice, so this thread can be closed.

    Thanks 3reefers!

I have the ebay protein skimmer and its great. Outperformed my reef octopus, eshopps, and coralife (well the coralife isn't hard to out perform). I just bought the 150g version for my 75 gallon build.

I have the 65 gallon version on my 29 gallon and it is great. Fast shipping from the ebay store too. Ordered Wednesday night and here on Saturday.

You should be okay for a couple of days. If nervous about it just do an extra water change. Keep an eye on your pram. and all should be good.

Sweet. I think I'll be getting the 65 gallon one soon!
