I am a newbie in the hobby. I have a protein skimmer. I am having problems getting the flow to get to the right level. Its either too high, in that the bubbles push clean water into the waste collector, or too low in that the bubbles don't reach over the top. Instructions suggest that it take up to 72 hours for unit to "break into" tank....
    Any ideas?

What type of skimmer? Usally take 5-10 minutes after an adjustment for the level balance out.

run it low so that it doesn't overflow to let it break in - that's called dry skimming. got to get the oils and stuff off the plastic surface inside the skimmer until it's good to go.

Glad to see you found way here...

Skimmers always take some fiddling with and time to break in...

Most skimmers need the "bubble line" right at base of lower chamber.

Can be adjusted by amount of flow going in, or outlet valve...

Let us know how works out.

how big is the load going in to the tank. Remember that your skimmer is only going to pull out what you put in. Do you feed alot"?? Do you ahve alot of fish??? If you aren't putting a bunch of stuff in your tank, your skimmer isn't going to do much. I don't get a whole lot out of my bare bottom tank because I only feed 1 time every other day and only what my fish can eat in a couple of minutes. For this reason my skimmer don't do a whole lot. My 55 I feed daily, sometimes 2 times and my skimmer on that tank is always cooking.
