Protein Skimmer Just Stopped Working??

I kinda recently got a Super Reef Octopus sss 1000 for my 75 gallon reef. It's been working great, until, a bit over a week ago, I added a little too much top off water and the sump level got higher than usual, causing the skimmer to overflow. I just opened the valve a bit since there wasn't much i could do about the water level. Ever since then, it HAS NOT WORKED. It bubbles the same as it did, but doesn't foam, like there's no proteins in the water. :-/

The only thing that's really changed is that I started using Warner Marine biopellets in a Nextreef reactor. In fact, the top off mix up was due to the water taken out of the tank by the reactor.......


Any ideas?? My nitrates are a little high (about 5 ppm) and I really want them down, but from what I've heard, these biopellets don't do their job without a good protein skimmer to pick up the waste.
