protein skimmer location

does it matter where i place the protein skimmer in my sump/refugium?

 

where ever you place it make sure it suck off the top of the water. but either local is ideal. It will just matter if you want to look at nasty mung or not.

 

Personally I just like the idea of the skimmer before the fuge. That way any fuge goo that needs to get cleaned out goes to the display tank first, and the water going into the fuge is slightly cleaner than the water going into the skimmer. Just my preference, but it doesn't necessarily matter really. As long as it's sucking crap out of the water you know something good is happening.

 

so it's okay to have it in the refugium?

 

Put it before the fuge. That way a lot of the waste will be cut out from collecting inside the fuge.

 

if you had it IN the fuge, it would be sucking up all kinds of crap, depending on if you have sand or mud or what have you. If this is a democracy, it looks like the vote for you is to place it before the fuge

 

I have mine before my fuge, I upgraded my skimmer (over double my tanks capacity) now my fuge is dieing...
