Protein skimmer not producing bubbles

    I have a used pro clear aquatics protein skimmer that I have recently decided to install into my system because my bioload is growing. I set the skimmer up in a container of fresh water to clean everything out but the skimmer was producing barely any micro bubbles I tried adjusting the air valve and everything. Is it not producing bubbles because it is in clean water or what?

    need salt water for the skimmer to make bubbles. fresh water does not have enough surface tension for that kind of bubbles. put it in you sump and let it break in for a few days. it should work fine then.
