    Do you Have a ATO. If so did your water leval go above the maximum water leval? This would cause you to wet skim.

    I have a question pertaining to this issue. I have a hob skimmer, I have to clean the sponge a lot, can I take it off or is that only an option for sump skimmers?

    You'll be ok. Nutrients definitely leaked back into your tank, and you may see a slight algae bloom, but things will settle back down. If you feel a lot of skimmate was dumped back into the tank, you can consider a large water change.

    A lot of things can cause a skimmer to skim wet all of a sudden. I recommend that you install a float switch to your skimmer cup or external waste collector; when the skimmate gets above a certain level, it will shut off the skimmer. I've had skimmers overflow many times in the past and finally decided to DIY a float switch in my waste collector.
