I have had my protein skimmer running for a few months and I recently started doing my water changes using RO water. This has caused my skimmer to produce incredible amounts of white foam. I have it all the way turned down and it still is over flowing, what do I need to do?

can you tell me at what depth the skimmer is mounted in the sump?

often if the skimmer is to low, then the pump will push saltwater right up the tube and then this overflows into the cup

have you added any other chemicals to the system recently? as certain chemicals do make skimmers froth out of control for a day or so (example for me , Coral RX if a new coral has not been rinsed fully enough residue of coral rx will make my skimmer go crazy for 24 hours)

additionally have you tried removing the air line, and cleaning that and the inlet valve for air as sometime dried salt / salt creep accumulates there restricting the access for air, so you get a higher water to air ratio which means the pump just pushes more water up the tube

I have heard some negative things about the coralife skimmers.

Certain chemicals can cause excess foaming in skimmers, what(if anything) are you dosing during your water change?
