I just noticed while adding phytoplankton to the tank that the Hang-on protein skimmer is actually pulling out PP and the upper bottle had green colour (like that of the PP) immediately

I usually spread out the entire solution throughout the tank and not concentrate it near the skimmer but i still feel it is pulling the PP out...So how to stop the skimmer from pulling it all out? I do not have a sump (and am running 2 canister filters w/ carbon )

I guess you could turn off the skimmer while feeding then turn it back on once your done. I dont know of any other way to stop it.

I turn my skimmer off during feeding. Leave it off for a couple of hours and turn it back on.

for me I leave it on. Impellers and pumps cost a lot more the phytoplankton and every time you turn a pump on it does a very minuet amount of damage but when added up over time, does a lot of damage.

I dunno about that. The pump motor itself doesn't care less if you turn it on and off; it has 0 moving parts. The motor is just a wire. The magnet should be mounted exactly in the middle (thanks to the axle), not rubbing against the sides at all, so that wouldn't care. The plastic impeller itself may sustain microscopic damage because of getting bumped into by particles floating in the water, but that's so ludicrously small....

Well this part is also true in a sense...But the damage to the motor would be minimal if we just switch it on and off once or twice in a day..I think i should go for it but just thinking abt the canisters now  In this case i would have turn them off too ryt?

I probably would turn off the skimmer and any filters with extremely fine floss on them.

I highly doubt anyone uses anything below 75 micron on their tank. Phytoplankton, at least what is on the market, is below 20 microns ;)

That doesn't mean phyto won't hit the floss: it just means it won't guarantee a catch on it. Phyto hits 70 micron floss twice, and you now have 40 micron floss...
