After adding a protien skimmer can I get rid of my power filter. Or will I still need it also? The tank is a 55 gal. Here is some info on the skimmer I found cheaply on ebay. Was only 49.00 with free shipping.

    JEBO

Triple venturi to create thousands of micro bubbles a minute - making sure everything that can be skimmed will not be missed

Rather quiet operation will have no noise to the fishes, corals or other aquatics
Upper chamber detachable for frequent cleaning and maintenance
    Totally submersible pump
Oil-free motor to avoid pollution to the living circumstance
Suction cups with oscula on pump
    300 gph flux

    Voltage: 110V/60Hz
Fits for all tanks and tanks with 40 - 80 Gal capacity most effective
Designed to hang on the the back of the aquarium (hanger width: 1 1/2 ")
Much more effective than air driven protein skimmers

Depending on how much LR you have and the size of your power filter......you might not need your power filter at all.....with or without a skimmer. The filtration a power filter provides is the same as that of LR, only you can add crabon to it if you want. The only reason to keep the power filter would be to run carbon........and there are strong arguments on either side of that discussion.
