You would retract that statment if you knew what he done for a living! You will find very few people out there that saltwater is their life, most it's just a hobby!

LOL, you heard tangster!!! LMAO YOUR NOT A SALTWATER PRO!!!! lol
How long have you been keeping fishtanks??? You gotta be able to back up a comment like that.
Many of us highly apreciate tangsters idealogies, as his experience in this hobby goes past my age and my experience with my tank put together.

    Hi,

I kept tanks when we used under gravel filters and nothing more ( I worked for a LFS) and it was common for the tank to crash. The store would have customers come in on a regular basis with crashes. We did things that worked, but we definately couldn't have corals. Fish stores didn't even sell them. We had a very hard time keeping anemones (that hasn't changed much). Anyway, the point is you can do all kinds of things that will keep the tank going, but skimmers are the best thing to have in a reef system. They remove organics that you CAN'T even test for. Stuff that is not good for the system, but you don't even know it's there (until you empty the cup). And they say not to add one until the tank is a few months old.

I would be amazed if you found an aquarium (public) anywhere that isn't using one (in some form). They are very important. Spend the money and get a good one. If you think about how much money you are spending in animals the cost of one compared to say your lights is not bad.

You don't run a sump ? If I had to use a HOB skimmer I'd get the red sea Berlin HOB that way when you go to a sump it will be ready also And they skim.. Just an idea you may want to check out ? And the 3 inner chambers really helps with less bubbles.

I would run a sump, but room constraints and the stand don't really allow for that. And I don't have enough clearance for the Berlin. Thanks for the suggestion though.
