protein skimmers

    hi all can someone help when buying a protein skimmer do you have to include sump volume as well as tank volume ;D

    Oh yes

    and then add a bit more IMO , its better the have a skimmer rated at greater the total water volume of your system than under it

    Just my opinion

    Hi Stemanc

    No experience on that model myself, but it does look rated adequately for you system
    and that looks a very good price and I have read a lot of good reviews about TMC skimmers in general

    cheers steve much appreciated, with the heaters would i have to include the sump volume aswell or does it just go on tank volume?
    see im going to be puttin them in my sump

    yes you need to include sump volume when working out your heater size
    heaters can go in the sump , so your main tank looks better

    2 small heaters is safer than 1 larger one ( if one fails, the other one will help maintain temp until new one is purchased, if you go with 1 big heater, better to have a spare just in case)

    so i by guess i would say 2 400w heaters im going for the Hydor Theo Heaters ive heard they are good products fully submersible

    2 x 400 watt seems high to me, not had a reef tank in the UK for 10 years plus myself. so maybe I have forgotten just how cold it gets

    150 Gallons total - do you mean you will use 1 x 400 watt and keep 1 as a spare?
