I need a in-sump skimmer to replace our dying Berlin. Obviously its been a while since I bought one. I dont even know where to start. Can anyone offer any advice?

I have heard great thing about the octopus extreme's. I don't have a in-sump model (have an HOB), but mine absolutely rocks. When I get a big tank set up, thats what I was going to go with

Oooooo....Here are a few to look at in my personal order of preference. I tend to like overskimming, as we tend to overstock our aquariums....So here goes.

    PM Bullet-3
    ETSS 600XR
    AquaC EV-240
ASM G2 (related to the Octopus....just a little more high end. Same basic design)

If you want to spend some serious money....These are the best of the best.

    Deltec TS1060 (~$1200)
Bubble King Deluxe 200 Internal (~$1600)

    Peace......John.

Well, you can overskim to the point of taking all of the nutrients out of the water column. But you have to go really overboard.

The reason I ask is that I have an extra skimmer that im not using, and theres already a skimmer in my sump so should I run two? Would it hurt?

if it fits in your sump it wouldn't hurt, double the recommendation is common in a lot of tanks.

if im not overskimming with my coralife 125 on a 10 gallon. then i don't know what is. everythings good so far.
