Protien skimmer on timer?

    Does the skimmer need to run 24 hours a day or can it be set on a timer to run maybe 12 hours? Mine seems to only produce skimmate a couple hours every day and then runs clean.

    im sure you could but it wouldnt perform as well as if it were running 24x7.

    Doesn't hurt to keep it running, and you get the side benefit of added O2 to the water.

    Its just loud from the room its in when we're watching tv or a movie.

    it wouldnt hurt to turn it off while you doing something that you want to hear. is it new?

    i started mine when i was cycleing and then shortly after shut it off and when i started it back about 6 weeks later it had so much salt creep in it that it would not produce any bubbles and had to be cleaned, just a thought even tho it would not be off nearly that long?
