protien skimmer problems

i just set up new tank because 125g cracked and leaked water everywhere now that i have new tank running i pluged in protien skimmer and it is filling up the collection cup right away and it is turned all the way down it has never done this befor any ideas why it is doing this

 

what kind of skimmer is it?

Thats very common with that skimmer.....keep adjusting it, might take a while but u will be able to get it right

 

not familliar with that type of skimmer but how deep does it set in water? i have a bubble magus that if the water is over a certain point it will do the same thing. maybe if you raise the skimmer up a little it might help.

 

This is normal with new set ups, even when using previously used/ broken in skimmers
Ive recently experienced the same thing with my Deltec
I had to strip my set up and then 2 weeks later set up again
using all new RODI mixed salt water

for 3 days I had to empty the cup 2 or 3 times per day, and it was mostly clear liquid in there

day 4 I started getting green tea coloured skimmate, and on a daily basis its been getting darker and darker and is now running as normal

raising the skimmer means the foam will be drier as it gets there so that will reduce the amount of time your emptying it

But IMO - If you have it set at the right height for the skimmer, in 2 or 3 days it will stop doing this and run as normal

skimmer is hanging on back of tank and was that way when old tank cracked didnt change anything accept tank also it is at lowest setting and only takes 3-5 minutes to fill cup

 

I think the top of the pump needs to be three inches under the water surface. That's what my coralife instructions say.

 

Sounds like you may have some dried salt or dirt in the air intake. Try feeding a small amount of RO/DI freshwater through the air line while the unit is running to see if that helps.
