That's going to be a tough job. IF you KNOW you will be going to a 90g then buy for the 90g. However, anything that will handle a 90g well is going to run like crap in the mean time on your 40g. At best a skimmer will only run well at 2x rating so you are right on the line how ever you do it.

But again... don't buy twice, buy for the 90g. Can I ask... why do you feel you need to buy one for the 40g now... can you wait a bit... are you just trying to piece together stuff now and spread the purchasing out..???

So...To get one for the 90g... you want one that is rated about 125-150% system volume... stay on the low end and you will still have plenty head room. It will be fine in the mean time. So you don't want one 2x 90g... just one rated for 90g.... good news is that is very common size with lots to choose from... bad ews is @$200 will be sort of tough.

A SWC 160 cone is $275.. but that's tops. cone are mor ethan cylinders.

A SWC 160 will be $270 because it is a space saver.

A Super Reef Octopus is 1000 is $270 and would be great with a the bubble blaster pump. Try to get there. 125g

The octopus line is less...$170 for a NW 110 solid performer

Bubble magus is a budget lines that still has good performance. You can get a cone with a atman pump and a space saver design for $250 Bubble Magus NAC-7

Eshops has had some pump problems lately and their cones are out of your range. I would get others for that price.

Last but not least are Vertex skimmers. An IN-100 will run you an even $200. Very solid performance for price. Do not over look these just because they are at the bottom of the list. There was no order intended.

    Happy reading.

Thanks two both of you guys appreciate the info. So in essence i need to fork-out another 70-90 bucks for a top of the line in my case right? That sounds reasonable given i will be saving on the B/R and L/R...

I will be doing some reading tonight and and thanks again i will keep you guys posted...

" Friend's romans country men lend me your ears....LOL

    Forum:

I was looking into the I Tech 100 PS as suggested here is what he sent me

    Model 100 Cone Skimmer
    Cone Base: 6”
    Cone Neck: 2 ¾”
Overall Height: 22 1/8" (Needs an extra ½” clearance for cup removal.)
    Recommended Pump: Tunze 9410.04 Hydrofoamer
Recommended water level: 6 ¾" (A stable water level will increase performance and decrease adjustments.)
    Airdraw: ~450 lph (16 SCFH) @ 17 watts in 6 ¾".
Optional external pump to body kit available.
Operation capacity of up to 100 gallons with a light to moderate bioload.

Body Price $300 (pump assembly purchased separately.)
    Tunze 9410.04 Hydrofoamer $146.54 (Includes i-TECH modifications)
Optional external pump to body kit $40

    Foot print
    External configuration 11" x 9"
    Internal configuration 9" x 8"

My Question is this overkill for my project ? Not to mention pricey !
