I noticed this morning that my mushroom leather coral did not extend its tentacles (not sure if tentacles is the right term) when I turned on the lights. I've had the coral for one week, and this is the first time this has happened. 2 hours later, still no tentacles. The other corals are doing well, and water parameters are normal. I wonder what might be causing this...I have it at the bottom of the tank in a low flow area (was told that this is good for mushroom leathers).

One thought I had was maybe I placed the leather too close to my zoa colony....it is about 4-5 inches away from the zoas. I have heard that zoas excrete harmful chemicals. In the opinion of people here, is the leather too close to the zoas, and would this be a likely cause of the problem?

Leather's are a STRANge animal, sometimes they will close for day's and then open up. They close when they are growing also....I have not had any probs with them being to close to aything yet.....except my clownfish try to host him and he will close up.....

I don't believe that is the problem. I have several corals (one a leather) close to zoas. Leathers do some odd things sometimes. They will retract for days just to shed. I think mine is dying every time but it always recovers and seems bigger every time.
