pruning xenia

    i have an xenia whos tenacles are so long.. what can i do ?

    +1 to above but make sure you get all the heads. They'll reattach and grow if they settle in a good enough spot.

    so cut on the thick part? not the long then tentacles? and then what do you do with the parts you cut off? the xenia itself is not too big its the long thin parts are way long..... and when you cut this off does it grow back?

    Stinky it will be! you really cant "Trim" it. you can peel it off the rocks, put a small rock for it to attache to then relocate it.

    that type will peel fairly easily with your hands. I used to yank that stuff by the handfulls and chunk it in the yard.

    If xenia didn't stink so bad I would have tried to frag it in my blender to see how many colonies I could start. 8)

    If you don't want them to be so stringy direct some flow towards them.. They will get more stocky.. But yea cut at the base or peel it off.. If you cut at the base sometimes it sprouts new heads...

    Yeah,they are resiliant,I had a colony die and melt away,6 months later they sprouted from the same spot bigger and bolder than ever. lol
