Id say ps3 blueray, free online, room for updates, more reliable....ive never had any probems with PSN the only issue was when it got hacked a few months back but other than that my brother loses internet all the time on his 360....as for the community ps3 people tend to be less hostile etc, 360 has a larger network of people but after it hits the hundreds of milions what the hels the difference because obviously you will never meet every single user in the system...another strong point for the 360 is most kids have it so his friends will be on the 360 rather than a ps3 but thats not always true either.....overall the ps3 has better and more uses has more room for updates without having to buy new stuff for them or a new system(the ps3 was built underpowered with room to be built up in the hardware while the xbox was released basically fully up to their maximum abilities sothe ps3 will eventually be better without releasing a new console to be purchased) my vote Ps3

Blu-ray on PS3 and free online play. I love xbox but if you play online much xbox can get expensive. Being only ten online may not be a big prob.

I say xbox 360. Having played both i can say that there really isnt too big a difference graphically, unless your watching movies witht he blu-ray on the ps3. yes ps3 has free online service but its gotten hacked, twice. yes xbox live can get expensive, 7 dollars a month for gold....or free for silver. a 10 year old doesnt really need online anyway. All the hardware issues witht he xbox are no more, that was something from the first batch of xbox 360's, the new ones have 0 issues. imo

o, and new consoles from sony and microsoft are on the horizon so saying that the ps3 will stick around longer because it can be updated is wrong. they will both have new consoles around the same time. no real details on that tho, so dont qoute me.

Ok Now i have a brouder perspective. So what is the pourpous of the differant hard drives between the two.

    Example PS3 has a 160 Gig and a 320 gig. XBOX had a 4 and a 200 something.

    Whats the benifit.

By the way i know i say i am getting it for my son but here and their i would like to watch a blueray or play some of the new games like Modern warfare.

the harddrive size just refers to how much data it can hold. i can say that the 4gig xbox would be worthless. the ps3's options are both plenty big

For me personally the hard drive space is not important because i do not store games, music, movies etc. on my PS3.

If you don't have a blu-ray player and want to watch them, in terms of dollars and cents you only choice should be PS3. The xbox doesn't offer anything the PS3 doesn't except for a few game titles.

This should be a pretty easy pick for you.

4 gig is definitely worthless...I bought forza 4 and can't even install all the car packs...5 year old loves the kinect though. I have both ps3 and 360 and I prefer the ps3 for a few reasons. I like the controllers and the online is free. The Xbox exclusives don't impress me halo and gears are dumb forza is the only one really. Xbox does frequently get downloadable content sooner than ps3.

I have and Xbox, wii and a ps3 (also a psp and asus machine for running WoW) so I am a gamer for sure. I definitely use the Xbox for games the most. I ended up just putting the ps3 in my bedroom and it only acts as a blue ray player.

Yes ps3 is certainly a more reliable machine (at least it was) but the newer gen xboxs are made by a new manufacturing company (first gen were made in Mexico by a company with whom MS no longer does business) and they are far more reliable and run cooler. I have been playing Xbox live for over 9 years at this point and like it a lot more than psn. Yes psn is free but lacks a lot of the features provided by XBL.

For a 10 year old I really think they have little business playing on line at all on either system unless you want them exposed to some really nasty people. I think the kinect will really appeal to that age group ( fun for parents too ) more so than the move for ps3.

Just my .02 after dealing with both systems.
