Verry interesting. Polls show Xbox as the favorite but reading the thread it seems the other way.

I was in Best Buy today and seen what looked like more games for my sons age range for Xbox than PS3. The games looked cheaper too. mabe beacause the ps3 is on blueray and xbox is not.

So from what im hearing. HD size dosent matter. If i went with the ps3 160 over the 320 it has no bearing on how the games are played just storge. and the same with the xbox.

Yes and no. There a lot of games that can be downloaded directly from their network which would need hard drive space. I can see where you might not need 320 gig but you definitely want more than 4 in the Xbox. Its not hard to add a hard drive and they aren't to expensive either.

I have both a xbox360 and a PS3, I never play the PS3 mainly bc I had the 360 first and when I play any online games with my friends it seems like I get better connections with the 360. Both systems have there pros and cons, I like both systems.

If I had a choice to choose I may have to go with the PS3 because of the blueray.

PS3, the controllers are better. My hands can use the controller more easily.

I absolutely love my ps3... The only issue I have is that the controller is kinda small for my hands. I definitely prefer a 360 controller, but I have large man hands. For a 10 year old a 360's controller might be a bit awkward to handle. Not impossible, I've seen kids do it, but I doubt it feels natural.

I also have a large white paper weight that says "360" on it. It has red ringed twice and I don't feel like paying to have it repaired again. The other thing I hate about 360 is if you want to upgrade the hard drive you have to buy one from microsoft, and its expensive. For a ps3 you can just buy any 2.5" SATA hard drive and its plug and play. I am ordering a 1 TB harddrive for my ps3.

For the OP. A lot of people are bringing up red rings of death and as some of the reasoning they dislike the 360, let it be known to you that the new generation of 360's (the slims) do not have this issue so it will not be a factor.

I think both systems are great. Have you asked the boy what he would like more. I have all the systems and the WII and PS3 get very little use. The Xbox is the big hit in my house. The kids love the Kinect and its great to try demo games before you buy them. Find out what his friends play on as he is only ten for a year. He will want to get online at some point and so will you. Let the boy decide. Have a friend or family member ask if he has one or the other and see what he says. My XBOX is a 1st generation and never let me down.

ps3, all games are on bluray, plays bluray movies, free online gaming, any bluetooth can connect to it, any usb keyboard can connect, all of those xbox do not offer. also i have gone through 3 or 4 xbox 360's since they've came out, most of the time i play too hard and eventually get a red ring, where as i have a first generation ps3 with way more memory than my xbox elite, also the ps3 has never needed any repairs unlike all of my xboxs

yes this is true Blu ray media is more expensive then DVD's the Xbox uses. Also the reason they have to up convert if you want 1080p or anything more then 5.1 for surround sound.

    I have all three.

Rarely use my wii anymore. PS3 I only use for bluray and for streaming movies from my media server. I just can't seem to get into PS3 games for some reason.

The xbox is where I do most my gaming. Most of my friends have xbox live, and I only play multiplayer, so the cost for live seems fine for me (and as an old school PC player, I love the simplicity of connecting with your friends. I've never tried playstation network so I can't comment on that).

I have had several xbox's die on me. Though I think I should throw out that Microsoft customer service has been amazing whenever I need it, and always replaced it for me.
