your talking to an 11 year old, the PS3 controller is far easier to handle, wii gaming systems suck imo and other gaming systems aren't as good as the PS3 and xbox 360/720:)

The bottom line, from what I have gathered over years of gaming on both systems, is that Xbox is better for online gameplay. For someone like me, the online experience is a must, so my choice will always be xbox live. However, for a 10 year old and the occasional gamer I would say that the PS3 would be all you need.

People on xbox live can get really nasty but you can tweak the settings so that you don't have to hear them.

@pjracer - The true benefit is that the PS3 is upgradable. Just needs a sata drive. I upgraded my original 40g to a 500g and then, when I moved to the slim model, I just transfered the 500g in place of the 160g. Xbox doesn't offer this.

look lets put it this way, for online reliability Xbox wins, but you have to pay for it, I have both, and the network goes out on both from time to time. so xbox barely wins. Second yes ps3 is about $100 more then Xbox, but your getting quality. xbox still uses one of those cdrom drivers and if the disk or system gets bumped, bye bye game. Ps3 doesnt have this flaw, it is also a faster more user friendly system (go figure, microsoft didnt make this one) It also has a Blu ray disc player built in, those are $100 or so on their own, they are also 3D ready for games and movies alike. Xbox has none of this. Xbox still runs on battery pack controllers, but you can buy rechargables. Ps3 does not, they have been rechargable since day one. when i look at my ps3 next to my xbox, I see ps3 is more solid and built to last. I have gone through2 original xbox's and 2 slims. I still have my original ps3, guess which one gets more play time since day one, PS3... Do I really need to go on? get him a ps3, and you wont have to worry about it crapping out on you, plain and simple, my four brothers are all on ps3 as well, since xbox crapped out on all of them as well, in the end the decision is yours, but take my advice... Dont get him a Sh*tbox. Get Him a mans system, a PS3 :D lol

it nice to have a large hard drive like ps3 can offer, same as a computer, you can download and upload movies, pictures music, buy games online and download them directly to the Hard drive. and the removable hardrive is a win for ps3 too. dont waste your money on Xbox

The hard drive is removable and upgradeable on the Xbox too? You just have to buy one for an Xbox...well you don't have to but you should.

I got Wii, 360 and a gamecube(still and is on the kids room) I got a 5,6 and a 9 year old and I have to say they much rather play my 360 more than anything else, sh*t, they rather see me playing GOW than play themself, the seen to be able to control the 360 controller pretty well, I have nothing bad to say about the PS3(I want one) but I have not find any PS3 only game that I really want, besides I got a Blu-ray already. I don't have one of the new 360 because mine still works and so far I have not have the ring of death. I do know of a friend that he had to buy another PS3 because his got the equivalent of the ring of death on his. He paid to get his PS3 fix not once but twice on top of buying a 2 unit.

I think you should give you kid a choice. In the end he's the one that is going to be playing must of the time. And if you get a ps3 to watch blu-ray also where are you placing the PS3 on the living room or his room. think about it. You want to watch TV/movie or surf the net on you BIG screen and he wants to play. I say get the 360 for him a blu-ray for you. I paid $50 for a brand new $200 blu-ray player :)

360 harddrives are way more expensive. At least twice the price.

Get the kinect package with the xbox, it is really neat, and a lot better than the wii. The xbox is easier to use, and doesn't break as easily. I have had both xbox and ps3, and xbox is all around better for gamers, and family. My ps3 was broken within the first week, and i sent it into them, and it was still broken when it was sent back, my xbox i have had for about 3-4 years, and it is running perfect! kinect is mind-blowing as well. ;D
