Have you tested your water for ammonia and/or nitrite? If you don't have either, you may need to add something to start the cycle.

Cool. So they take Hydrogen and Oxygen, and bond the atoms in the back room? Nifty LFS to actually create their own (synthetic) water.;D

Sounds like you have a good cycle started. Once your ammonia starts going down, you really only need to test for nitrite until you have 0 nitrites, then your cycle should be done and you can check everything one last time to make sure. No need to use up other tests while cycling.

ok, if i don't need to use al of the tests every time i test, that's good because it takes me probably half an hour to test, but i try to do more than one testing at a time

When I added my rock and started the cycle I was getting impatient also. My rocks looked just like you have described yours and there was nothing much to see. Thats when I started reading these forums and other info on the web (and found out I didn't need to run all those tests every day...lol) then one day as the nitrite was coming down I found a small feather duster worn on one of my rocks! I was so excited I was running around the house to tell everyone to come and see it! Basically I acted like a little kid on Christmas morning...lol.

It's been about a month since my cycle finished and it still still alive!
