That will just take time ... they are always loud in the beginning, after about two weeks it should quiet down significantly.

Most skimmers have a break in period of about 10-14 days it seems.

Your tank looks really cool, even if its just rock now. :) Its crazy, I started cycling my 38g the same day you did (8/8 ) and I have the same skimmer I think...or atleast a similar one. You really do have some patience with it taking this long to cycle. I used the raw shrimp method as well and mine cycled in a week and a half....and I checked ammonia and nitrites like 3 weeks after that almost daily to make sure it was cycled. Its crazy how some can take longer than others.

Anywho...I hope you get to add a fish or 2 soon! Your stocking plan sounds alot like mine too! :D

I'm now very interested to see your tank thread. Funny how we started the same day. I guess my tank just decided it wanted to take forever to cycle. I've been checking parameters every few days and it gets frustrating when nothing is reading 0. And I think I have decided on a good stocking list except I'm still unsure what goby I will be getting.

Raise your collection cup alot, and let it sit there for a few weeks, and you'll get stuff the consistency of mud in there :p Don't actually do this, it's just what happened to my skimmer on my mantis tank. Cleaning that was TERRIBLE. It was definitely more solid than water. bLeAh :D

    +1

How well do you clean it Jay-Win? I just dump it out and put the cup back... I might clean it under running water once a year... sooo nasty.

I will say after my wife caught me cleaning this nasty thing once, I no longer could get away with not changing poo diapers ::) ;D

Ok, I shall raise it. I tested the water today and tank is still not done cycling. Its had a huge nitrate spike for past few days. Hopefully that means it's almost done

Yep it's almost done. If you're gonna get an algae bloom, now would be the time for it to start showing it's ugly face.

And I clean that skimmer cup with a paper towel and running water where it's nice and clear plastic again :D Meaning I had about half a centimeter of mud thick on the inside I had to cake out ::) And then everywhere else was your normal dark skimmate. So it was terrible. Like a poo castle with a moat or something.
