Ok so my friend fragged me about an inch of pulsing xenia about a week ago. It looks healthy but the stalks aren't fully extended when my lights are on. At night when I look in my tank with a red light they are pulsing amazing! Could it be too much light? I have them currently placed on the sand in my tank.

    Anybody why??

Definite possibility on the light level. Very difficult though to diagnose what a Xenia does and why.

Xenia are weird creatures. They grow like weeds in some tanks and won't grow in others. Mine barely grew in my 55g, now after 3 weeks in my 90g, its quadrupled in size and I'm having to start to frag it.

In my 55g, it would shrivel up for a few days if I; did a WC, changed flow in any way, changed lights, added a fish, feed the corals, changed skimmer settings, or if any of the following somehow got on m TV(Justin Bieber, any Jersey Shore members, or any local car commercials). Point being, they are testy and can take awhile to inflate. I wouldn't worry too much, chances are you're prob gonna end up throwing some away someday.;)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
What is the difference/swing in pH or alk at night than during the photo period?

I hate Xenia its such a pain lol it never stops . But yea just give it a while I doubt its going to ever die inside the tank. It will crank up soon. I'm seriously considering throwing out some of mine its just too much.
