Pulsing Xenia!?

Help, it seems to be dying! It wont pulse any more and it seems like it is shrinking.

 

parameters? lights? age of tank? water circulation?

 

75 gallon- 4ft. long, 21 inces wides and 24 inches deep. Lights good question. I heard the guy at my LFS call them power compact. Theres 8 all together- 4 white and 4 blue. There is a rain bar up top from the filter, and two powerheads on each side of the tank and a protein skimmer. The tank is about 5 months old. But the xenia actually started to do bad in my nano so I switched it to the 75 and still no improvement

 

water quality? placement in the tank? any flow?

 

those tank dimensions are a 105 gallon
since it went bad in the nano what are those ?'s

 

My first question is how long ago did you move them? When ever I move some of mine from
tank to tank it takes them a few days to open fully.

Once they have opened though I have found that they are a really good indication that there
might be something wrong with my water if they are closed for more than a day or two.

My Xenia do better in a high flow area. As far as lighting goes, they tend to take care of that
themselve as them move to the higest point that they can find so basically they like lots of light.

 

Sorry apparently I dont know the dimensions. But its a standard 75 gallon. The nano is a 12 gallon and I have no idea what the dimensions are. And everything is perfect in the nano. 1 damsel 1 cleaner shrimp, a mushroom rock and some other coral that looks kinda look a colt that is doing awesome and really getting big. But I moved the xenia about a week ago. I put it in a medium high spot with moderate flow. The little limbs attempt to open it looks like but definetly no pulsing. I am adding Kent iodine about once a week, I have heard that helps.

 

I learned something really interesting lately from Sally Jo over at GARF.

She says that xenia simply will not thrive at temps much above 76 degrees.

I can honestly that those few that survived my recent overtemp have been doing very poorly at 80 degrees.

Am going to slowly drop temp down to 77 degrees and see what happens.

Have begun to notice that many of the most awesome reef aquariums (RE "Ultimate Marine Aquariums," by Michael Paletta) run temps somewhere in 76-78 degree range. Some as low as 75.

I for long time have believed optimum temp was around 80-82 degrees.

Time to try something different.

Mine are doing great at 80 to 81... In fact when my heater went out last week and the Temp. got down to 74 they all closed up real tight till the temp got around 79, go figure! I have read a few things about lower temp's too. Don't know if i am ready to lower mine just yet.

 

Xenia don't like nitrates so check those first.
