Ive bought a baseball sized frag of pulsing xenia 2 months ago. Theyre now softball sized. I watched them at the lfs for a week b4 purchasing, to be sure they were healthy. They pulsed for the first week ...then nothing ...or occasionally a slow lethargic pulse. Great current, not too much, not too little. Add DT's reef phytoplanktin 3X weekly for corals. Theyve multiplied and look beautiful and healthy. See my signature for tank stats. Any ideas?

AFAIK, this is an unexplained phenomenon that varies from tank to tank...

mine pulse almost constantly and grow like wild fire. but they do stop pulsing every now and then for a little while... but pulse 90% of the time...

I've had this coral the longest and it has survived through everything I've thrown at it... without any change in its pulsing...

I can tell you though, bc they spread so darn quickly, if mine didn't pulse, I'd definitely yank them and throw them out to make room for something else... it's the pulsing that keeps them safe ;) in my tank.

Mime also only pulse about 10-20% of the time. And actually, they may soon be coming out of my tank.

Mine pulse more often than not. The pulsing tends to slow down shortly after a top-off and picks back up within I'd say a few minutes.
