I have a Shuran Jetstream 1 calcium reactor. Everything on the pages are German. I know the circulation pump that's on there but the pump that you are suppose to hook to it.... I think mine may be too big.

Can't I put a smaller power head to the "input" pipe?

The pump thats on it is a Rio 1300 at 73 watts and it's valved way down. I know that's beating the crap out of that pump and making heat.

Does anyone know the recommended input GPH (not the recirculator) or have this set-up that could tell me what they have that is working?

The directions are in German. If I could eliminate the extra pump, put the whole board in the sump and maybe prime that recirculator to keep a suction????????

Wow, so I am way over! Thank you. I will pick up a smaller power head tomorrow. I googled it yesterday and went off into fish land reading that "tank of the month" and about coral. So I went on tonight to see and now I am just too tired of staring at a computer and hoping websites with pounds and euros and nothing about what size pump goes on the reactor.
That was sooo much easier posting my question here! Thank you for the reply!

yeah you just want your water coming out of the reactor in a small trickle

I T-off my return pump for the water into the reactor. I tried a PH but I could never keep a constant flow because there is not enough pressure.

We use that Shuran Jetstream 1 calcium reactor also at the shop would not be mu first choice , But it requires a hell of a pump or it will not move water and you have to use the course media not the small grain stuff like ARM Regular the water will not pass through it and circulate at all .. It comes with a Eheim 1250 and it should fit perfectly . A Mag 3 will do you .. its a tricky reactor to dial in .. I made a probe holder for ours at the shop pipe is metric so don't break anything

That was what I was thinking but last night I was too tired to go through the thought process. I heard how some people T their return pump and I always wondered why you'd wanna rob your return... now I know! It literally trickles in there. One question, there is a valve on the unit but what keeps the reactor from pushing past that valve and going directly into the return water?
Then, in doing so, I wouldn't have to worry about the heat from yet another pump and worrying "What if that little head goes out and I don't know?" There would be a bunch of Carbon in that reactor.

Thank you. I am aware of using course media. Am I ignorant in thinking all media brands are the same? I was going to get the ARM this time around because I heard they have less phosphates then other brands and added minerals or trace. Is there a "good" brand?
And I noticed the pipe was smaller then a true 1/2". Can I use that #16 glue that comes in the red tube? It's supposed to hold acrylic tanks together.

That is what I was planning on refilling with. I googled media and read a couple products but sometimes there is a product you never heard of that is actually better. I got anxious and ordered the ARM big bone. Thank you all for the help.
