I have a MaxiJet 1200, I use the valve to slow down the flow.

AMaxijet 400 is more than sufficient, it even needs to be valved down since it only requires like 60-80 GPH to fluidize the media.

I have a pump with a 290 GPH rating. Judging by your comments, that should suffice if it is valved down, right?

Maxijet 400. I actually use one to provide flow for two Phosban 150's, and I still need to close the valve halfway.
