I am trying to find out if there is a simple equation to figure out the loss of head pressure a return pump will put out per y or elbow in the return pipe.

Any help would be appreciated as I am finalizing the list of equipment for my upcoming upgrade from 72 to 150 gallon tank.

On a side not i ordered my custom sump today and it is going to be a beast 48x17x15.

    Thanks in advance.

found this on another thread -

cut and paste from Screwtape a member on this site

You get head loss no matter the direction of the plumbing. The pipe itself introduces friction on the water which causes back pressure to some extent.

The head loss calculator I checked says 41' horizontal and 4' vertical results in about 11.5' head loss which should result in about 1000 gph from a mag 24. Keep in mind that any elbows etc also introduce head loss as well. I doubt it's 100% accurate but I think you're probably fine regardless, that's a big pum

maybe Screwtape if he/she is on could post a link to the calculator mentioned

This is the head loss calculator I have used in the past, it doesnt have every pump in there but it will at least tell you how much head loss you get and you can check that against the head loss chart for your pump.
