I have a SWC 160 extreme protein skimmer that doesn't like my Apex controller. When I plug my protein skimmer into a regular power out the skimmer works fine, but when I plug it into my Apex controller it dies and the pump never works again. I just ordered my 3rd pump and don't want to kill it. Anyone else ever have this problem. The folks at SWC said the pump should work fine with the Apex controller, in fact they have a couple clients that has the same set up with no problems.

Never heard of anything like that. Have you tried anything else in the outlet with success? (Something cheap that can be destroyed and not hurt you! LOL) Alternatively check the outlet of the Apex with a DMM and make sure your output on that line is fine. Should read approx ~120v. It could be that one of the in line resistors in your Apex has been damaged, causing an overload on that particular outlet.

I will try a small powerhead and see if that works. I don't have a DMM so I can't check the voltage. I'll have to pick one up.
