Pump-piping and long run questions

    After seeing people having sumps and refuges in thier basement, I want to put one in my back bedroom. Piping would be 4ft down x 50ft run x 3ft up. That would also put me at around 5-6 bends also. What kind of pump(s) would I need to push water through this? Have not figured out how many GPS or whatever, was thrown off track looking at some zoo's, lol. Would be using dif tanks, but, up to 90 gallons max in future. Right now I am looking at a 40 gallon setup, thanks.

    Prolly be a good question for some others as I dont have anything piped to my basement. But heres a site that has some pumps to kind of get a clue GPH and cost.

    Hello paulg, thanks for the link, I will take a look at that. I think my main problem is that if, for example, a 90gallon (max) tank needs a X amount of GPH using a sump/refugium under the tank, what I would need running the distance I stated. I am fairly sure, but, not 100%, thats why I am here, that there would be pressure drops from the length and bends. So, before I say any more, since I am still learning, i will take a look at that site. Thanks again for the link.

    that'd be a feat, someone else would have to pipe in on this i know getting the water moving horizontally and vertically multiple times would be a challenge, would take a massive pump as well as one heck of a overflow setup I'd think

    Ours is 15 ft below and about 35 ft over in the basement.. Take 1.1/2 inch waste to the sump and then 1 in back up I run a SAS 9800 Dolphin but you could get by with a Amp master 4700 or even a Hammer head like Otty runs either pumps could be used to run the skimmer and any reactor like I do and also Otty . The Amp masters pull so little current at 120v its unreal 1.4 amps or so :) But if you have the ability run the pumps on 240 v . One the 1.1/2 drain what you want to do is one the top under the tank add a tee and bushing the throat to 1 in as most tank drains are 1 in then on the top of the tee you can add another bushing and run a smaller pipe and add a cap drill the cap to accept a fitting or some hard air line 3/16 to put a section of airline to keep the drain run vented and free flowing . I have a cap drilled for the stub of air pipe and then some airline and a J to set on the tanks rim as a vent .

    thats what i am thinking also, but, i am thinking that using a bulkhead in the back of the tank would get the water going at least to the back of the house. if the water level goes up to match the tank, once moving, it should level out to where it is actually siphoning itself. Of course this is a long was off getting my tank clycled X times per hour, but..... All that is left is returning it back to the tank with another pump.

    According to paulg's site, its said i need a 90gallons X 15 with equals a 1350GPH pump??? Hmmm, thats only for one and doesnt include one for my skimmer, lol.
