Ok, so the last piece of gear for my 55 came in today. I am setting up a 55 Gallon reef with a 20 long sump and the late arrival was a Quiet One 3000 pump.

I was planning on plumbing this with 1 inch PVC, heck I already have it run, and the pump has a 1 inch MPT connection on it. The problem is that the adapters that it came with reduce the 1 inch down to 1/2 inch slip on connectors. Should I use the 1 inch pipe or would I get better flow if I downgraded to 3/4 or 1/2 inch? The pump would have to lift the water about 4 feet either way I just want to get the most flow out of the pump.

Good, I took my time putting it together and really didnt want to replace it.

Everyone else agree? PVC is cheap so I guess I could measure flow with both but why waste the cash. I could make a DNC or something =)

I use that pump on a 1" hose for various things (water changes mostly).. it is pretty powerful, I think you will be fine.

I have the same pump. I used a 3/4" connector ( elbow or straight connector) I trimmed the fitting that the pump came with down ~ 1/4" then I used the generic pvc/cpvc glue. I "purple stuffed" it and then glued it. give it time to dry ( 30 to 60 mins).

Note, you need to use the 3/4" connectors (not the pipe), if you use an elbow, if you test fit the "grey-ish, black-ish" connector that comes with the pump, if you look in the other end of the elbow, you will see where it is hitting. trim accordingly. I did it for a 2200 and a 3000 works great
