I am not sure where to post this...I want to clean my pump up a bit...it looks like there is salt caked all over it and the water flow has seemed to have gotten weaker...

my question is can i unplug my pump so i can take it out of my sump for 5-10 min so i can take a toothbrush to this thing to see if the flow improves

if not im not sure if the visibility or space is enough to be able to do enoght good in the sump....

if not does anyone else have any other suggestions

    thanks

As long as you have enough room in your sump for the water to flow back into than it will be fine. Soak it in some vinegar water.

I pull mine out, pull it apart and soak in vinager for 15 minutes. Then use an old tooth brush to scrub it. rinse everything off real good, reassemble and put back in

You will have to cut off the overflow or whatever is supplying your tank as well to prevent flooding. Other than that, pumps require maintenance every now and then to stay efficient.

You should make sure you have enough room in the sump for the water to flow back into anyways. If your return pump ever failed it would overflow the sump if the didn't have the room.

I pull my return pump and powerheads everyonce in awhile, fill up the kitchen sink with warm water and vinegar, plug them in and let them run in the sink for 15 minutes or so. Seems to work good for me.
