pump size help?

    getting all my supplies for my upcoming 40 breeder, I already picked out the protein skimmer which is a aquac remora with a mj1200. but for a return pump should i use a mag 5 or mag 7? what would be better in your oppion?

    You need to calculate out your headspace before really choosing a pump. Also, what is your overflow rated for? Flow through the sump should be around 5-10X the total system capacity, so I would think you would be better off with the seven.

    ok so a mag 5 is not great so I think im gonna go with a mag 7. Ijust found one lightly for $45 good deal you think?

    it say lightly used only for salt mixing, still good or no?

    buy a new one. thats the life line to a tank. if you can afford a mag 5 or 7 then get a newer version of quietone pumps.

    fyi: i use a mag 3 on a 55g, but should really have a mag 5 since my head is 5 1/2'. and my overflow is rated for 350gph.
