I have a 75 gallon tank and i'm using a 20 gallon tank for my refugium. Any suggestions on how much gallons per hour return pump i need? My tank is a deep blue brand with a corner overflow.

Is the O/F single or dual standpipes?

What diameter (ID) is the standpipe(s)?

What are you planning on keeping in the tank?

Will you be running a submersible or external return pump?

How far up will you be pumping the water, and will there be any in-line equipment (chiller, reactor, etc)?

single standpipes 1 inch out and 3/4 inch return. Plan on reef tank, fish and corals. The return will be a submersible, no in-line equipment.

Figure that your O/F is probably rated at 600 gph, so...

Eheim 1260 (650 gph): Great, quiet pump, not real cheap tho.

Sicce Syncra Silent 3.5 (660 gph): REALLY nice, quiet, low power consumption, but again, not cheap, but a bit less than the Eheim. I REALLY like these...replaced all our NC pumps with Sicce.

    Quiet One 3000 (713 gph): Nice pumps, I use a 4000 on a split 40B we have.

Mag 7 (700 gph): Great, older technology pumps...reasonably priced, not the quietest, and do heat your water a bit once you get larger than the Mag 5 (500 gph).

I personally prefer to go just a bit "hotter" on my pumps, as there's always some head loss and friction loss in your returns. That being said, I also like to add a bleed line in the return that runs back to the sump just in case I need a bit less flow, or to tune the tank to "max quiet":

I like Aqua Euro pumps. The 1000 model would work perfectly with a 1" drain.

I like my Marineland pump. Currently using a 5500, plumbed from the basement, ~!10ft head, still has good return! Can be sxternal or internal, mines internal in my sump. They have many models to choose from. It has worked flawlessly for over a year!

The also make the MaxiJet powerfans/heads, etc.
