Looking for a cheap pump. The application is pretty simple.

I want to use it to mix saltwater. And when I'm ready to do a WC, I want to hook a hose to it and use same pump to pump water from my fresh SW batch to my tank. It'll need to pump up ^ about 6 feet to get over the lip.

I checked around petco and didn't see anything (their stock was really low for some reason). Looking on web, well, I don't know what I"m looking at and there are a zillion choices to weed through.

So any cheap suggestion I can order offline would be appreciated.

I use a Maxijet 1200 or an old Mag 3 or 5 I have laying around.

I use a Maxi-Jet 1200 for that very same thing. Works just fine. :)

+1 on the maxi-jets, I have had a 750 for 20 years! If you can find one that is Italian made they will work for 20+ years! I don't even clean mine, for the price and application, they are hard to beat!

can these run dry? like, when it pumps all the fresh SW batch out, do I need to be standing there to unplug it or will it turn off when the water is gone?

You will need to turn it off when it runs out of water but it does not hurt it to run dry unlike other power heads.
