    hey everyone

well for both of my tanks i have sumps, in both of my sumps i have a couple of pumps. these pumps seem to make very loud noises, like a constant vibrating noise and its pretty loud. i figure its loud because the pump is basically vibrating against glass or acrylic.

so i was wondering if anyone has an ideas on preventing this noise?

as of right now im using filter pads it stops it some what, but the noise is still pretty bad. and filter pads are probably going to get dirty being in the sump.

Most pumps come with brackets that have suction cups to hold them still and not let them vibrate.

Which pumps do you have? Most if not all pumps are quite, I dare to say that your impeller shaft and/or impeller are either dirty or worn/warpt. When was the last time you cleaned them? Luna

Can you put your hand on th pump and stop the vibration. If not then there is something else wrong.

I placed a small piece of "foam", like a mat that is used in a kids play ground. I glued it under the pump and I never heard anything ever again. Oh, BTW, I have a Magdrive 18. Just get something that you dont have to clean that often and that wont "leak" any kind of contaminents. Luna

I used a lid off of a disposable glad/tupperware container. Worked pretty good.

you can get rubber gaskets that are used to seal faucet handles they come in a wide range of size you can get then at any hardware store i attached them to the bottom on the bracket on my mag sevens turned out the it was the side of the pump hitting the tank a couple of thick rubber bands stopped that two weeks later this happened http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/my-125-diary-updated-60731.html

Did the Mag drive not come with a vibration pad in the box? Ive got a small peice left over I could mail you, but it would be enough to insulate the vibrations.
