I am about to be given a TFL Pure Flo II RO filter. I need to order catriges for it. The instructions say it uses a TFL, carbon, and micron filter. Should I purchase these or other types of catriges? What is your reasoning for your suggestion? Will I be able to possibly attach a DI unit on to the RO unit eventually?

    Possible DI add on;

Get the 90GPD batch tested RO membrane ($30), a matched flow restrictor ($5), a 0.5 micron absolute rated prefilter ($12) and a 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon carbon block ($13) found here:
SpectraPure Customer Appreciation SALE! 20% - 50% off

All filters will fit in your housings and they are much higher quality than the standard ones. You will now have a 90GPD system so less time standing around making water.

You also need a TDS meter and an inline pressure gauge to monitor the systems condition, its almost impossible to know water quality without them.
For an add on DI I would consider the SilicaBuster DI or the dual MaxCap D2 which comes with a dual inline TDS meter:
DI ADD ON KITS AND SYSTEMS

The DI you linked to does not state if it is refillable or not and who knows how long it has been sitting in a shipping container from China then on a shelf somewhere. DI has a shelf life of 6 months at best even when stored properly. The MaxCap and SilicaBuster cartridges are custome blended the day they ship and vacuum sealed in mylar bags.

    Thank you for the help.

Just called them and placed my order. Only cost 145 for pretty much an entire new system w/ a 2 stage DI attachment for it.

Thats great. You will like the dual DI, it seems like it makes resin last forever.

It was on sale for $75 annd it has the digital tds meter. The tech support guy said it would last longer than the single. For the price I said screw it....why not. I ordered everything you suggested. One question. Do I need to do anything with the flow restrictor?

Any tips on how to set it up when it comes in? I take it the DI comes after the RO membrane? Or is it just before the RO membrane? Or, I doubt this but, first in line? Photos would be best.

EDIT: Do I install the usable water hose into the DI and just leave the waste hose where it is?

Once you install the new filters and membrane and flush them you will need to folow the directions they include on trimming the flow restrictor for your conditions. Its very easy and only takes a small measuring cup and a clock or watch to measure and time the good and waste flows. Once you have those you use a simple formula they provide and trim the excess off with a straight edge razor blade or sharp knife. This way you get the most accurate waste for your specific water temperature and pressure.
The DI will go after the RO membrane, the RO does 90-98% of the work and the DI does the final polishing.

Basically yes, the RO leads in to the DI and the waste stays put.

Its going to look pretty much like this:

Here is also a good manual on how to replace your membrane and how to measure and trim the flow restrictor:

Spectrapure has dozens of hook up diagrams and manuals on their website under both "Manuals" and "Tech Support" at the top of the main page.

These show you how to hook up autoshutoff valves, float valves, float switches, meters, autotopoff systems, drinking water kits, booster pumps and many other options.

Thank you for those links. For the most part it seems easy enough. If I have any questions when the stuff arrives I will PM you.
