How long does it take for them to knock down the nitrates? I had 40ppm and it's been three days since I installed them along with the AquaticLife skimmer in the back of my 29g biocube and my nitrates have hardly went down. Chaeto will be here wed. and will throw that in the fuge area. How long will it take my nitrates to get down to almost zero??

Also can I use carbon with these chemicals?

no problem running carbon at same time

I cant speak about chemi pure elite as I have never used it
but Purigen might not be best chemical media for Nitrates that high IME

I have used Purigen for 2 years and started using it when my trates where 5ppm and it zero'd them in about a week
now I test weekly and as soon as I get a reading 2.5 ppm - then I change it for another pouch that has already been regenerated ( I have 2 lots in rotation so always a quick change rather than a waiting period to regenerate the 1 pouch)

In my expierence chemi-pure isn't a miracle worker when it comes to nitrates, I never really noticed a difference with it.

You are not going to see magic ,
I use combo of both on my 130litre and my 13 gallon.
The cheato will suck that nitrate up,
You will still need to export through
Water changes without the macro algea in play.
It will just be watching your test results stair back at u unblinking otherwize.

My understanding is that the purigen is resins that traps organics n waste material n such
The chemipure is a clever combo of quality carbon and some form of feric oxide to trap your chemicals
I get pretty good stability from them but have to keep up the care taking work.
Figure when i get a fuge going it will just get better

You will most likely need to find where you have detritus sitting in your system and remove it. You will also need to cut back on how much you are feeding and increase your water change frequency and volume. Also start using RO/DI water instead of tap.

Chemi-Pure is good stuff, but running additional carbon would be rather redundant since it has carbon in it, and as far as I know is just a mix of carbon and phosphate media. It claims to remove organics, but I have never seen it remove nitrates on a large scale in any personal application.

I agree whole heartedly with the use of RO/DI water as stated above.

    Best Regards.
