Purchased yesterday 2 small boxes Purigen (each box is for 400 Litres) I read you can regenerate it in 50/50 mix of bleach and water , is there an amount of times that this can be done?

been in for 27 hours now,

would using this product make the use of carbon less important?
or would running both at same time be ideal?

I've been in contact with a rep from Seachem over the last couple of days about this and a few other of their products. He/she said that this (Purigen) doesn't do anything for removing medication and toxins released by fish and corals which carbon does so well, but is effective in removing excess organics from the water column while preserving the trace elements that carbon destroys. It basically does the same thing that a protein skimmer does without the loss of trace elements.

They also weren't specific as to how many times that you could regenerate Purigen before you had to completely replace it. I didn't press for answer though in their defense. I think I read somewhere that it good for 6-8 regen's or something in that ballpark.

In the reviews on marine depot it says it's very fine and comes through the media bag. What type of media bag are you using or do you have it in a reactor?
    Sounds like good stuff.

I have mine in a cannister but I have it sandwhiched between layers of foam so it does not get all the rubbish build up on it
