Hey all! Can you please ID this algae for me? The kind on the glass, and the spiny stuff growing on my back wall as well. There is also some deep deep maroon circles growing on my rock. You can kind of see it in the picture. This is in the back corner of my tank that is hard to clean, so it is difficult to get good pics of it. Thanks!

Coralline. You can remove it from the glass with razor blade and some elbow grease.

Just other color variation of coralline. On the rocks= good and beautiful, on the front and side glass= PITA. LOL

It's growth is a good sign that you have been 'doing it right'. :)

Could be any number of red/purple macroalgae. Hard to tell from the pic but I would guess Dictyota.

Haha. I assumed you knew what the Fauchia on the back glass was. I've never seen it just start growing random like that and assumed you had glued the macro's to your tank walls. It could be titanophora sp. as well but I agree with the above and think it's red dictoya or commonly called fauchia.

thanks guys! I think it is pretty cool looking, so as long as it is not doing any harm, i may not try to remove it.

some of the spiny stuff growing on the walls is also growing on a rock and looks awesome! I will try to get a picture.
