Hi All! I am new to this forum so sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post this question.

I just picked up some new live rock at my local fish store and it came with some interesting soft purple bumps all over it. Not sure if this is common or not. Any ideas of what it might be?

Interesting...looks like coral or sponge. Is it hard to the touch? Could we get a picture under daylight lights?

yes they are very soft. They are as purple as coralline algae, however I have never heard it looking like this. For some reason my camera makes my tank look very blue, even when the daylight lights are on.

where did you get the rock? they are definately star polyps, they arent open cuz it looks to me like they have a thin layer of algae on them, take a powerhead and kind of try to blow it off. what is your lighting?

I got the rock from my local aquarium store. They sell all kinds of reef supplies and reef fish. It is not a petsmart kinda place haha I will take a powerhead to it because I would love to see them open up if it is indeed star polyps!

    I agree.

The Bluish tone to you photos is because your white balance on the camera is off balance. If these are taken on your phone, then you may not be able to do anything about it. But if it is on a camera, even a point & shoot, you can adjust the whit balance in the menu settings.

also, i have a JBJ Biocube (CF-Quad Version) and i have the stock "105 Watt Compact Fluorescent" bulbs

Should I run the lights all day/night to get them to open up?
