Will this work? I read on liveaquaria they will fight with the same species unless mated pair, but would it be the same with the different colorations? I know they are pretty peaceful, but thought I'd ask and since my tank is relatively small (55 gallon), I wanted to check. I love their demeanor and the look of my regular firefish, but since it's difficult/impossible to find out the sex to get my current firefish a mate, I thought this may be an option?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Best kept in trios, introduced when very young, all at the same time. Firefish are a completely different fish when kept in groups. More active and aggressive. This is my experience with them only, others may report different results. I researched it before I attempted it and never had a problem with them.

So take mine back and get 3 different ones? Aww :-( he was my first sw fish! Lol, thanks for the advice though!

For what it's worth, I haven't seen many juveniles at my store, unless mine is a juvenile lol. He's about 3" long I guess.

Thanks for the help! I just love these fish!

My wife and I have a purple firefish with a regular firefish in a 72 gallon reef and they don't fight, in fact they hang out together quite a bit. Although, this may be an exception and not the rule.
