Yeah best to be on the safe side, though neither or thos fish would be a big impact on bio load even when full grown. Firefish is stickly and a gramma is pretty short, considering.

My Royal Gramma has a preferred cave that he retreats to on occassion, but he's out in the open just as often. He holds he own with my maroon clown...sometimes does the whole open-mouthed threat if anyone gets too close. A beautiful fish with personality, I think.

I am looking for about 2 more fish to satisfy my wife who wants pretty colorful fish to look at. I just want coral because I have had freshwater for 23 year and always had fish, corals are cool, but I need to make mommy happy so I can justify all the money I have spent.:-/ I am afraid to get tangs because I only have a 55 gal. Any suggestions for colorful peaceful fish???

We currently have only the fire fish, but have had both. The RG, disappered, a couple of weeks back, (been accusing the green brittle star of snacking).

Our FF hangs out in the front/center of the tank, while the RG stayed back in the rock work. We have a very non-agressive tank, with the most frequent offender being the gold, banded, maroon clown when any one gets too close to the BTA.

We will be getting another RG and two more FF....

    Good luck,

It sounds like the answer is........... "it depends". Both have very similar qualities but it depends on the individual fish whether they will be hiding and skittish all of the time.

Maybe I will take the easy way out and just ask my wife who will pick one in a matter of seconds based upon which one is prettiest ::) .

I vote for the firefish they are docile and are pretty easy to feed and keep happy.

I haver a firefish and a royal gramma. Both are in the open the same amount of time. I been thinking of adding a purple firefish but my bioload is not a problem its the swimming/hiding space available that is staring to dwindle to nothing.

I also like both. Im gonna have both in the 100g, but if bio-load is an issue, than I would probably go with the RG. Ive think they are just alittle more active than the FF. They will hide alot, but will hold there own, which is cool to watch, lol. The FF is a very colorfull fish, but seams to just hang out over the rock, and not swim to much. Mybe the FF down here are just sick or something :hehe: . Let us know what you get!!
