    Hey guys,

    New guy here.I have some growth on my live rock. Being new idk what it is but its beautiful. Good or bad idk

    I bought it from an established tank at my local fish store. live rock

    Im assuming its coralline algae.

    You might want to swap sand before you go any further if you plan to keep coral. From what it looks like you have "fine" sand, you want a sugar grain (or larger) to have increased flow.

    I agree, if the sand is too fine, once you increase the flow it will blow your sand everywhere

    Oh man, that doesnt sound fun. Can i put maybe an inch layer of larger grain over it?

    Yeah you want to replace that sand bed, best to do it prior to the tank becoming any more established. Huge pain to do it with live stock in the tank.

    Putting a larger grain sand over it is just asking for even more issues.

    Best to just switch it all out now and be glad the troublesome nature of such a fine grain sand was brought to your attention now rather than later.

    You could but I you ever siphon the sand or get sand sifting critters it will end up back on top down the road.

    You're welcome.

    Anything that says aragonite pretty much is what you're looking for. Petsmart, petco most fish stores carry some versions of it.
