I have all this purple hair SOMETHING :-/ growing on TOP of my live rocks. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but my clownfish seem to love hanging out in there (i believe they are mistaking it for a BTA). Can someone please tell me what this is? I have read up on some posts and it says that good water flow would prevent algae, but this purple hairlike THING seems to only grow where there IS good water flow.

I was trying to post some pictures but didn't know how. It's asking for the http, but my pictures aren't uploaded on the internet. Can someone please help!? Thanks! ;D

Do you have a picture? If it's really pink/purple, my thoughts go to cotton candy algae.

You need to upload your pics to a photo site such as Photobucket or Flickr then add the URL via the "Insert Image" option.

I dont think they will be uploading pics anytime soon. The original post is from 2006. I would like to see this purple hair algae though, lol.

I have the same stuff it's cyano if you leave it alone long enough it will start to form strands that look like GHA they wave in the current and though they look interesting the mat of cyano is ugly. Clowns seem to LOVE this stuff I cant figure out why but the clown i have nuzzles the dang stuff, and when the lights in the tank are low it's down swimming through the stuff.
