Purple layer growing over my live rock

    any one have any ideas what this is i am new to salt water tanks and i cant find anything about it thanks

    Welcome to 3Reef!!! That's cyanobacteria. It's common in new tanks.

    Welcome to 3reef! and thats kinda neat cyano comes in purple also.

    You can just remove it manually.. Like Inwall said it's common in new tanks.

    It comes in purple, red, maroon, green, brown, and black.

    Best way to remove it, in my opinion, is to siphon it out with some flexible air line tubing. Then, reduce your lighting schedule by half or 2/3ds. Also, try to keep your nutrients on the low side.
