Purple Lobster

My lfs got a few in the other day, they are quiet beautiful looking. Some sites say they're reef safe while others say reef safe with caution. Anyone have any experience with them? Do they bother corals or will it be safe to buy one?

 

I don't think that they're considered reef safe because they may eat your fish, especially bottom dwellers like gobies and such. I wouldn't risk it.

From personal experience, mine is doing great and has not tried to eat any of my fish, though not saying they could. as far as reef safe, the most he does is gets excited about some food i put into the tank and crawls over my Green stars and zoo's a little. but i've not noticed any damage to them and they are back open and happy in a few min. But i do feed him a Silverside about once a week. probably whats keeping him from snagging one of my fish. =)

 

I have had one for a while now I have'nt had any issues ie. missing fish I actually hardly ever see him I have to go looking for him in the rockwork with a flashlight to make sure he is still in there. So while they are very cool looking you will probably never even know he is in there if you have a lot of rock. I took him from a friend who broke down his reef and he didn't even know he was still in there untill we took the last rock out so he gave him to me.
