Alright the story goes as such. In Pryor oklahoma is the only LFS for 100 miles around for sw stuff. He is th esame one that sold me the slug that wiped out my tank not long ago. So any way I have a CC substrate and he said I needed a live rock to go with the sub and any dry rock I put in. So he sold me a rock covered in purple algae and told me it was coraline. I am new to the game and new no better (this was before 3reef) So the purple from the rock is growing all over the back glass and the side glasses and the front but I wipe it off. The substrate has been turned many times and it is deep in the ground. So I am looking for the answer without taking everything to the dumpster and starting over. So I hear of something called Chemi-Cure for the phosphate level. Where do I get this stuff and what else can I do to end this problem? This is not Coraline it is Cyano....
This is a slick algae what does Coraline feel like....Talk to me PharmJohn and others...needin input once again...

pictures would help identify the algae, but without them I'll say the following:
    1. Chaeto is a great tool and can be put in a fuge. It will not spread and it will suffocate cyano.
    2. what is your water source? Good RO/DI water will usually slow the growth of cyano.
    3. stop going to that LFS!

I quit them when they crashed my tank and killed over $200$ in life....anyway I will order cheato any thing else I need? post it I want to get set up and running.....THe tank has been lifeless for a while now. Can I add a cleaning crew or is this a bad time? Will the phosphates being out of whack hurt them? I am fixing to do a 50 percent water using distilled water from the grocery store....Man, thats over $25.00 plus the salt....I need to get setup and get a RO/DI unit for the kitchen....

You can find alot of answers to your questions by searching for "cyano". I believe that there's thread regarding Chemi-Clean too that might help with your questions.

The tags feature on the site is also very helpful. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page of any particular thread and click on one of the "tags", you will be brought to all of the threads dealing with that particular issue. Not all threads are tagged though but we're working on that :)

Did you test to see if phosphates were the problem? Lack of flow can be a big culprit of cyano too. I would do the big water change and test params. Find out the cause and in the interim you can use UltraLife Red Slime Remover...It is a bandaid but it works well. I just went through it in my tank. I used it and also got some chaeto for my fuge. I also run a phos reactor. Red slime is completely gone

Over the next week I will do a 100% water change I am looking for Cheato but reefkeepers is out and I dont know where else to get any. I am not much on googling for something and giving out any cc info unless it is thru paypal..So I am kinda stuck. but will look into the phosphates. I would rather do it without chemicals. Might just take a bit longer. I dont have a fuge or sump so I will just put the cheato in the back corner for the time. I am in no hurry.....cant believe I paid 25 bux for a rock covered in Cyano...but it was before I found this joint...
